Definition of tachometer: The watch tachometer is a tool that measures the speed of movement of an object or person in motion. A tachometer is an instrument that calculates the average speed over a given distance. This instrument usually measures speed in kilometers per hour and most often works with the second hand. In the world of watchmaking, this concept can be found on chronograph watches.
How the tachymeter works: To measure the speed with a tachymeter, you have to start the chronograph at a certain distance marker (for example a road marker). At the next distance marker, the point indicated by the second hand on the tachometer is the average speed between the two markers.
Watch tachometer: the different types
A tachymeter is composed of different measurement scales: specified, unspecified or dual scale.
- With a specified scale, it indicates your speed in kilometers per hour on a scale of 1000 meters. This is the case on our Horizon tachometer watch.
- When you have a tachometer watch with an unspecified scale, it simply means you have to base it on a 1000 meter scale.
- Two levels of scale means several graduations on your watch, the first is also based on 1000 meters unlike the second which is based on 100 meters.
