What size watch should I choose for my wrist?
Which watch will fit my wrist? When you want to buy a watch, you may wonder what size watch to choose according to your wrist, especially when you buy on the internet. This question is obviously legitimate, a watch is grafted to our wrist every day. A very thick watch with a large diameter on a small wrist will tend to weigh it down. On the other hand, a small and thin watch on a large wrist will not be suitable either. So the size of your watch is an element to take into account before buying a watch and we will try in this article to help you make the right choice.
Measure your wrist
Take a tape measure and measure the circumference of your wrist. If you don't have one, take a piece of string, wrap it around your wrist and transfer the circumference of your wrist to a ruler. To help you if you are in doubt, a woman's wrist circumference is generally between 14 and 18 cm, while a man's is generally between 15 and 19 cm. If you have measured your wrist size, we can move on to the next step.
Choose the right watch diameter
- For a wrist size of 15cm or less we recommend a watch with a small dial and a case diameter of up to 32mm. Our small women's watch Sully would be perfect for you!
- For a wrist size between 15 and 17 cm a watch case between 28 mm and 36 mm will fit you like a glove. Our Initial 36 or Aurore watches will fit perfectly on your wrist.
- For a wrist size between 16 and 18 cm, choose a watch case with a diameter between 36 and 44 mm. All our men's watches are included in this range. We offer men's 40mm automatic watches like our 40mm men's Initial watch, 39mm diameter watches like our GR sports watch collection or 38mm diameter watches like our Concordia quartz dive watch.
- If your wrist circumference is greater than 19 cm you can opt for larger watch cases ranging from 42mm to 50mm.
Other elements to consider
- Diameter is an important component to consider when buying a watch, but you should also consider the size of the watch from lugs to lugs. Lugs are the small attachments that watch straps are attached to. Our advice is that the lugs should not protrude from your wrist. This could create an impression of overload. So if you have a thin wrist, choose a watch with a small dial like our Sully women's watch.
- Also take into account the thickness of the watch. For the same diameter watch, a thick watch will have a larger volume and will look much more imposing than a very thin watch.
All the proportions we have just mentioned are not set in stone! If a watch does not have the size and proportions mentioned above but you find that it fits perfectly on your wrist, follow your desires. A watch must above all please the person who wears it! And if you are still hesitating, the best thing for you to do is to go to a store and try on different models of watches to make up your mind.
