Analog watch : Definition and origins

In the world of watchmaking, the time can be displayed in different ways and the analog time display is the most commonly used. A watch is considered "analog" in watchmaking when it indicates the time using the movement of hands on a dial. The dial is usually dressed with numbers and indexes, which allows the user to read the time on his watch easily. 

Etymological origin of the word Analog: Analogy comes from the Greek analogia which means that something is proportional or similar to another although they are distinct.  Thus, analogy is a thought process through which we relate two things or two objects of different nature. In the case of an analog watch, we associate 2 elements of different nature. The tip of the hands is associated with the number or index that the hands point to. We associate a direction with a number or an index, that's why we speak about analog watch. Analog watches have always existed and are still the most common watches on the market today.
