But what is the purpose of a watch tachymeter? How does it work? Today, Team Charlie Paris answers all your questions in this article.
Definition of a tachometer: A tachometer is an instrument that calculates average speed over a given distance. This instrument typically measures speed in kilometers per hour and most often uses the seconds hand. In the world of watchmaking, this concept can be found in chronograph watches.
Tachometer operation: To measure speed with a tachymeter, the chronograph must be started at a specific distance marker (for example, a road marker). At the next distance marker, the point indicated by the seconds hand on the tachymeter corresponds to the average speed between the two markers.
Lthe different types: A tachometer is composed of different measurement scales: Specified scale, unspecified or two scales.
With a specified scale, it indicates your speed in kilometers per hour on a 1000-meter scale. When you have a tachymeter watch with an unspecified scale, it simply means that you should base it on a 1000-meter scale.
Two scale levels mean several graduations on your watch, the first is also based on 1000 meters unlike the second which is based on 100 meters.
