Seiko VK64 movement: The precision of quartz, the charm of mechanics

A hybrid movement by Seiko

The Seiko VK64 is a mecaquartz movement developed by Seiko, a pioneer in watchmaking since 1881. This particular caliber embodies a hybrid innovation: it combines the precision of a quartz movement with the mechanical feel of a traditional chronograph. This is known as a mecaquartz movement, an ingenious compromise for watch enthusiasts seeking a responsive analog display and a classic design.

How a mecaquartz movement works

The Seiko VK64 is distinguished by its hybrid mechanism. It uses a battery as its primary power source, ensuring remarkable precision, while retaining mechanical elements in the management of the chronograph function. When the chronograph is started, the central second hand starts instantly with a smooth movement, identical to that of a mechanical movement.

This hybrid approach also allows for instant resetting of the chronograph hands, which return precisely to their original position thanks to a system of springs and mechanical wheels, giving the whole an authentic watchmaking feel.

Technical characteristics of the Seiko VK64

  • Movement type: Mecaquartz
  • Energy: battery
  • Functions: hour, minute, date, 24-hour counter and mechanical chronograph minute, second (5 beats per second).
  • Instant chronograph reset
  • Autonomy: approximately 30 months

Why choose the Seiko VK64?

  • Reliability and precision of a Japanese quartz caliber.
  • Aesthetics and handling of a real mechanical chronograph.
  • Energy saving with a battery that ensures several years of operation without requiring winding.
  • Compactness, ideal for thin but dynamic watches.

It is particularly appreciated by watch brands that wish to offer a chronograph with an authentic design, while remaining accessible and practical on a daily basis.

The VK64 at the heart of our GR Mecaquartz collection

At Charlie Paris, we have chosen to integrate the Seiko VK64 into our GR Mecaquartz collection, a sporty watch with a strong spirit, designed and assembled in France. Thanks to this hybrid movement, the GR Mecaquartz models combine the tactile pleasure of a mechanical chronograph with the proven reliability of quartz technology.

By combining Seiko's Japanese expertise with our French know-how, the GR Mecaquartz collection illustrates our commitment to offering technical and aesthetic watches. The VK64 movement fits naturally into it, bringing a touch of mechanical authenticity to a world dominated by pure quartz. A hybrid watch, just like those who wear it.
