Modern field watches: from military heritage to urban use

The Origin of Field Watches: An Essential Military Tool

Field watches originated from the military needs of the 20th century. Designed to be robust, readable and reliable, they were worn by soldiers on the battlefield. These watches met specific requirements: a durable case, a contrasting dial for quick reading and water resistance.

The first field watches appeared during the First World War, but it was during the Second World War that they established themselves as indispensable precision instruments. Strict specifications were then defined to guarantee their reliability in extreme conditions.

The evolution of field watches: from military tool to versatile accessory

Over time, field watches have moved beyond the strictly military domain to become popular accessories for adventurers and fans of functional watches. Their sleek design and robustness have made them the go-to watches for explorers, mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Today, field watches have evolved towards a more versatile approach. While they retain their DNA as utility watches, they also fit into an urban lifestyle, combining aesthetics and functionality. The integration of modern materials and advanced technologies has made it possible to create timepieces that can adapt to both an urban environment and extreme conditions.

Readability and robustness: criteria that are still relevant today

One of the fundamental characteristics of field watches remains their impeccable readability. A clear dial, well-defined indexes and a luminescent coating are all elements that guarantee instant reading, day or night.

Additionally, these watches are designed to withstand shocks, the elements and harsh conditions, thanks to the use of materials like stainless steel.

The GRX - EVO-III: a contemporary field watch, designed for urban adventure

At Charlie Paris, we wanted to reinterpret the spirit of field watches by creating a timepiece that is functional, robust and anchored in an avant-garde style. The GRX - EVO-III is a watch that draws inspiration from modern alpine equipment, while adopting a design adapted to everyday use.

Featuring a domed sapphire crystal, a 316L steel case with black PVD coating and water resistance to 100m, the GRX - EVO-III offers optimum resistance. Its white dial, energized by touches of color inspired by the alpine world, ensures perfect readability. Its hands and indexes enriched with Berlaglow® pigment allow easy reading even in the dark.

Available in two versions - one with a Seiko VK64 mecaquartz chronograph movement and another with a 24-hour quartz sweep second display - the GRX - EVO-III combines technicality and aesthetics to establish itself as a contemporary field watch.

Conclusion: the field watch heritage revisited for today

Field watches have come a long way since their military beginnings. Today, they represent a class of watches that are both functional and stylish, suitable for a multitude of uses. The GRX - EVO-III embodies this evolution by offering a perfect balance between robustness, readability and contemporary design.

Whether for a mountain adventure or a day in the city, it remains a true everyday companion.
